Robert Lee Berry was the youngest of five siblings born to the union of the late James and Emma Syas of Benton, Mississippi on January 6, 1937. Parents, Emma and James, brothers Eddie Melvin, Linel and James Jr, all preceded him in death.

Robert confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. Robert was baptized at Water Grove AME church in Benton, Mississippi.

Robert got his formal education in Mississippi, where he attended Lynwood High School.

Robert was united in holy matrimony to Jessie Haymer on December 25, 1958. To this union three sons were born Samuel Earl (who preceded him in death), Robert Dwayne and Melvin Jerome. '

 In the year 1959 Robert moved to Chicago, Illinois. Robert was employed at Jefferson Electric in Bellwood, Illinois for many years. Robert had a passion for the road and fulfilling his passion, he graduated from Ryder Professional Truck Driving School. For many years he was a long distance driver, which often times took him from coast to coast.

 While Robert had many talents, his favorite was, "working on anything with a motor". This adopted trade gave him the title of "mechanic". Many family members, friends, and neighbors benefited from Roberts skills and talents.

 Robert touched many lives and was often referred to as either "Honey" or "Hoppey. 

Robert departed his earthly home on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at 2:30 pm at Lincoln Park Hospital.

 Robert leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife forty-nine years, Jessie Berry; two sons Robert Dwayne (Michelle), Melvin Jerome;            grandchildren, 4161W Dwayne "Nick", Kyra, Natori, and Kendall; mother-in-law Lucy Brown (Yazoo City, Mississippi), one sister, Ernestine Reed (Chicago, Illinois), seven sister-in-laws (Yazoo City, Mississippi), three brother-in-laws (Yazoo City, Mississippi), and a host of family members and friends.
